Ultrasearchula Firefox and IE7 Opensearch box

15Feb08

Ultrasearchula’s promotion is proving difficult, but the iGoogle Gadget is starting to be used more and more. I’ve been dabbling with adding more value to Ultrasearchula and the Opensearch is a great addition.

To make use of it you’ll need to be using IE7 or Firefox, then just click here to add it to your browser’s search box. The best way to use this is to use the one character prefixesUl, such as ‘s iphone‘ to find an iphone at your favorite shopping site. The main Ultrasearchula site shows the prefix characters, here’s a few of them: web, shop, auction, news, videos, books.

There is another alternative. I use IE7 and it allows you to add other search providers to the IE7 toolbar. Just tried and it works like a charm. Pressing the down arrow to the right of the IE7 search field on the toolbar (more toolbars can be turned on by right clicking on the menu bar). The down arrow brings up a list of providers or you can add your own.

    link is
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx?dcsref=http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

This link has you do two steps and bingobango your search is now on the list.

Comment — can you please make the text larger on the first screen? If I have to stop to peer to read it, I won’t use it.

I am finding it to be very fast.

    Great idea.

    Hi Calgari,
You can change the font size in the preferences option. You can also add Ultrasearchula to IE7 by clicking on the appropriate link at the foot of the front page.
    Cheers, Mr Badger.
